A wide-flange steel column bears on a base plate secured by hooked anchor bolts embedded in a concrete foundation. A one-inch thick polyfoam layer wraps each column, with the top half-inch removed after twenty-eight-day concrete strength is reached and filled with sealant. The adjacent concrete slab-on-grade bears on a roughened surface with a quarter-inch amplitude.
