A structural steel beam bears on a top bearing plate welded to a steel column. The bearing plate matches the beam flange thickness with a one-half-inch minimum thickness and fastens with four three-quarter-inch-diameter A325-N bolts. Where no intersecting beam occurs, stiffener plates measuring one-quarter inch by depth divided by two minimum are provided on each side and welded with quarter-inch fillet welds. The shear plate extends to the bottom flange on each side for intersecting beams. Edge distances comply with AISC minimum requirements with standard typical spacing.
