Wide-flange steel beams frame into wide-flange columns with complete joint penetration welds at the top and bottom flanges for non-seismic moment connections to the column web alongside simple or moment connections to the column flange at the roof level. Supplementary components include web plates, bolts, continuous plates from the strong axis where applicable, and optional one-half inch stiffener plates. Stiffener plates are specified as one-half inch thicker than the beam flange framing into the column and are required on both sides of the column web unless otherwise noted. Partial joint penetration welds feature throats equal to one-half of the column flange thickness, accompanied by specific notes regarding shear plate notches and connection schedules.
