A concrete topping slab is cast over a formed steel deck bearing on a supporting steel beam. Shear studs, denoted as HSA, are welded through the steel deck into the top flange of the steel beam to provide composite action. A typical shear tab connection frames an incoming steel beam to the supporting steel beam web using three bolts.
