A concrete slab on grade transitions through a depression with a 6-inch minimum thickness zone and stepped edges. The construction joint features a five-eighths-inch diameter by twenty-four-inch smooth dowel spaced at eighteen inches on center, greased and fitted with a paper sleeve over one end. Both joint edges are finished with a one-eighth-inch radius. A control joint is detailed with a saw-cut depth equal to one-third of the slab thickness.
