A vertical slip joint connection between cold-formed metal framing tracks accommodates deflection. A continuous bottom track rests above a deflection track with a designated half-inch clearance gap. Two number 10-16 self-drilling screws secure the track-to-track attachment at sixteen inches on center. Additionally, one number 10-16 screw connects each flange of the stud to the track above, positioned within maximum three-quarter-inch limits from the end of the slot. A deep leg inside track provides lateral stability while allowing vertical movement.
