A wide-flange beam frames into an HSS post using a one-half-inch thick shear tab welded to the web with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on both sides. The beam web is fastened to the shear tab using one-inch diameter ASTM F3125 Grade A325-X bolts with quantities sized per plan. A three-quarter-inch thick cap plate, sized to the width of the column minus three-eighths of an inch on each side, caps the HSS post and is secured with five-sixteenth-inch continuous fillet welds.
