A steel beam connects to a steel column using a shear connection with five bolts and a clip angle. A 6x12 select structural top plate bears over the wall assembly, fastened with fourteen one-inch diameter machine bolts spaced at varying intervals from two to eight inches. A Grade 50 steel plate, one-half inch thick by three and one-half inches wide, runs along each side of the top plate. A four-inch nailer notched at the steel tie plate is tied in with five-sixteenths inch welds. Wood studs are spaced at sixteen inches on center beneath the wood post and framing members.
