Wide-flange beams connect to wide-flange and box-shaped hollow structural section columns with complete joint penetration welds across the beam flanges. Horizontal plates welded to the top and bottom of the beam flanges are sized with a thickness equal to the beam flange plus one-eighth inch, with a minimum width of two inches. The connection details reference rigid frame drawings for specific plate thicknesses and weld requirements.
