A buckling-restrained brace connects to a gusset plate welded against the flange of an existing W14x78 steel column. The column web receives one-half-inch stiffener plates on each side, welded with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on three sides typically. An existing W21x62 beam frames into the column flange opposite the gusset plate with a bolted shear tab. Existing concrete encasement around the column is chipped out and repaired to allow installation of the gusset plate and working point alignment. The buckling-restrained brace type is sized per plan.
