A steel beam bears onto a timber post sized per plan, connected by a pair of 1/4-inch connection plates welded to the beam flange on each side of the post with a 1/4-inch fillet weld. Seven 1/4-inch by 2-1/2-inch SDS wood screws at 2 inches on center, staggered, secure each connection plate to the wood post. Three-eighths-inch thick web stiffeners are welded to each side of the post with 3/16-inch fillet welds, with spacing determined by the width of the transverse beam per plan.
