A structural slab connects to a concrete pile cap where the slab top elevation matches the top of the pile cap. Typical dowels match the slab reinforcement and embed into the pile cap with a mechanical coupler used optionally at the contractor's discretion. A one-inch keyway is formed at the cold joint between the structural slab and the pile cap face. Pile cap reinforcement is omitted from the drawing for clarity. The detail applies to both elevated structural slabs and structural slabs on grade.
