A concrete slab construction joint features a keyway with a depth equal to half the slab thickness, or alternatively, an intentionally roughened entire surface at the contractor's option. All slab reinforcement extends through the joint continuously. Edge clearances and dimensions require a maximum thirty-inch spacing for key segments with six-inch minimum edge distances.
