A wide-flange column receives structural steel beams at its top flange with a cap plate and continuity plates. The cap plate thickness equals the greater of flange thickness TF1 plus one-quarter inch or TF2 plus one-quarter inch, with a one-inch minimum. Continuity plates match the larger of flange thickness TF1 or TF2. Shear tabs connect the beam webs to the column flange where required, secured with bolts.
