A partial joint penetration weld joins the steel column members while temporary erection aids supplied by the fabricator are removed after column splicing. Welds must be ground smooth if the structural steel remains exposed to view. Dimension D equals the thinner column thickness minus one-sixteenth of an inch with a three-sixteenth-inch minimum.
D NOTE: GRIND WELD SMOOTH IF EXPOSED STL = THINNER COL THICKNESS - 1/16", 3/16" MIN D ERECTION AIDS BY FABRICATOR. ERECTION AIDS TO BE REMOVED AFTER COLUMN SPLICING. PJP
