For number three through number five bars, the extension requires six bar diameters for smaller bars or twelve bar diameters for number six through number eight bars. Standard bend diameters measure one and one-half inches for number three bars, two inches for number four bars, two and one-half inches for number five bars, and four and one-half inches for number six bars. Extension lengths for ties and stirrups require six bar diameters or three inches minimum.
