A hollow structural section column bears on a half-inch thick embed plate welded with a quarter-inch fillet weld. The embed plate is secured to an eighteen by eighteen inch concrete plinth reinforced with eight number eight vertical bars and number four ties at twelve inches on center. The plinth rests on a column footing and adjoins the concrete slab on grade and exterior landscape pavers.
