A hollow structural section connects to an aligned member using a one-inch thick cap plate welded typically with a partial joint penetration weld unless noted otherwise and a five-sixteenth inch fillet weld. A one-half inch thick end plate welded each side with a one-quarter inch plate joins the members via three seven-eighths inch diameter galvanized A325 bolts. Bolt spacing is set at two inches on center with one-inch edge distances.
