A structural steel beam connects to a column using top and bottom plates welded to the column flanges with five-sixteenth inch fillet welds. Plates are one-half inch thick for five or fewer bolts, and five-eighths inch thick for more than five bolts. Shear plates and bolts are sized per plan. AISC K1 dimensions apply to the column web.
