Rectangular or round openings in concrete slabs on grade require supplemental diagonal reinforcing bars placed around the perimeter to maintain structural integrity. One-half of the cut reinforcing bars are positioned on each side of the opening with a two-inch typical clearance. The section detail shows two number four reinforcing bars centered within the slab thickness. Openings range from two feet minimum to six feet maximum dimension with standard corner bar extensions.
