A steel beam frames into the top of a column, featuring a column cap plate sized to match the beam or column width with a minimum three-quarter-inch thickness. The column connects to the cap plate with quarter-inch welds, and three-eighths-inch stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web. A half-inch thick by twelve-inch splice plate connects the members with four three-quarter-inch diameter A307 bolts at standard gauge. The accompanying plan view shows a half-inch by one-foot eight-inch plate with nine three-quarter-inch diameter welded stud anchors at seven-inch gauge on each side of the panel. A half-inch gap is maintained at the panel joint aligned with the column grid.
