Steel floor beams frame into the flanges of a wide-flange steel column using bolted shear connections. Horizontal stiffener plates are welded between the column flanges in line with the beam flanges to provide local reinforcement. A concrete slab poured over metal deck bears continuously across the top of the steel framing members.
