A vertical intersection occurs between a concrete column and a concrete slab. Column projection into the slab is prohibited, requiring the top of the column pour to terminate between zero and one inch below the top of the slab. If the column is poured too high, the concrete must be chipped down prior to placing slab post-tensioning or reinforcing steel. Slabs less than nine inches thick require one set of column ties through the joint, while slabs nine inches or thicker require two sets of column ties.
