Two steel columns meet end-to-end with milled column ends bearing directly against one another. A partial-joint-penetration groove weld, specified as PJLP with a depth equal to half the flange thickness designated as tf/2, joins the column sections. The splice is located at a height of four feet above the highest adjacent finish floor.
