A wide flange beam is coped as required at the top flange to clear a supporting wide flange beam. A reinforcing or bearing plate is bolted to the coped beam web using two three-quarter-inch diameter A325 bolts, placed one on each side of the web. The supporting beam is reinforced with three-eighth-inch full depth stiffener plates on each side, welded with quarter-inch fillet welds along three sides typically.
