Reinforcing bar placement around slab or deck openings requires Number 4 bars placed diagonally at the corners and along the sides of the opening with a one-and-one-half-inch typical spacing. For openings smaller than one foot square, diagonal bars are provided while side bars are omitted. Trim bars require a one-foot-six-inch minimum extension beyond the opening corners. Standard hooks must be provided for trim bars where the edge of the deck occurs closer than eighteen inches from the opening.
