Cold-formed steel vertical blocking is installed between parallel joists or rafters to support hung equipment. The blocking track without clips is attached directly to the joist web using eight number 8 self-tapping sheet metal screws as shown. Alternatively, blocking with clips utilizes Simpson L50 angle clips fastened with six number 10 self-tapping sheet metal screws. The blocking material thickness and gauge match the studs or joists up to 43 mil maximum, with clips up to 18 gauge maximum. Where the material thickness allows, the track is notched and bent 90 degrees.
