An HSS brace frames into a steel column and a built-up transfer girder using a one-half-inch thick gusset plate with a one-quarter-inch fillet weld. A one-half-inch by six-inch plate is aligned to the end of the girder with no direct connection required to the steel column. The work point of the brace is maintained with a one-and-a-half-inch minimum clearance from the column face and a one-inch maximum gap at the lower connection. The existing steel column extends above the roof level to support Level 3 at elevation two hundred twenty-five feet zero inches.
