A structural steel beam bears directly onto an interior steel column with a connection plate welded to the column top. Beam web stiffeners are welded to each side of the beam web using quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides to reinforce the web against concentrated loads. The connection is secured with bolts through the top flange and cap plate, supplemented by quarter-inch fillet welds joining the structural elements.
