Concrete slab-on-grade joint configurations incorporate metal joints, formed joints, and control joints. Construction joints feature half-inch diameter by eighteen-inch smooth dowels at sixteen inches on center or speed dowels with number four by twenty-four-inch bars, paired with a joint cap and flexible sealant. Slabs include typical continuous reinforcing and thickened edges with a minimum eight-inch dimension and two-inch minimum drop. Control joints specify a depth of D over four using plastic construction joints, one-eighth-inch Masonite, or a tooled joint filled with flexible sealant, or an alternative sawcut within eight hours of concrete placement filled with joint sealant compound.
