This structural steel connection features a wide flange beam bearing on a column cap plate sized per plan with a thickness matching the beam flange and a minimum thickness of three-quarters of an inch. Three-eighths-inch stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web using three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds with two-inch returns on three sides typically. The beam connects to the column cap using two three-quarter-inch-diameter A307 bolts at standard gauge per side. Additional beam connections use four three-quarter-inch-diameter A307 bolts at standard gauge as detailed in the typical wide flange beam connection detail.
