A structural steel moment frame connection joins moment-frame steel beams to a structural steel column. The top flange of the beam connects to the column flange using a complete joint penetration weld with a standard weld access hole per AISC 360. A web plate sized to the beam web thickness plus one-eighth inch by four inches connects the beam web to the column flange using three seven-eighths inch diameter erection bolts and five-sixteenths inch fillet welds with one-inch returns.
