A glulam column bears on a three-quarter-inch steel base plate with one-half-inch chamfered corners, dapped into the bottom of the column. A central pipe and two one-half-inch diameter by four-and-three-quarter-inch steel pins provide connection support. The pins are countersunk, centered, and plugged with wood dowels. A typical one-eighth-inch gap is maintained on all sides.
