A wide-flange steel column connects to a supporting beam below using a three-quarter-inch A36 steel base plate secured by four three-quarter-inch diameter anchor bolts. One-half-inch stiffener plates are welded to each side of the column web with quarter-inch fillet welds, matching the width of the column flange above. A one-half-inch minimum shear tab plate connects to the column flange, utilizing five-sixteenths and three-eighths fillet welds. Edge distances and bolt spacings follow typical American Institute of Steel Construction specifications.
