Concrete floor slabs accommodate embedded pipes and conduits with a one-inch minimum cover maintained on all sides. When standard slab thickness cannot provide adequate clearance, the concrete thickens locally to maintain the required cover. Pipe or conduit sleeves run through the slab assembly as specified for typical penetrations.
