A C6x channel spans horizontally and connects to an HSS column per plan using a bolted shear plate connection. A 3/8-inch thick plate with a width matching the channel's flange sits above the connection. The HSS column is capped with a 1/4-inch thick plate welded on three sides with 3/16-inch fillet welds.
