A wide-flange beam connects to a wide-flange girder through a moment-resisting configuration featuring complete joint penetration groove welds at the top flange and an ASTM A572 Grade 50 bottom plate sized per the flange width. The web of the supported beam is connected via a 3/8-inch plate centered on the web with vertical rows of bolts. Fillet welds secure the bottom plate and web components according to the specified dimensions, maintaining a maximum one-inch clearance at the beam cope. The assembly transfers both moment and shear forces between intersecting structural steel framing members.
