An HSS beam frames into an HSS column using top and bottom L4x4x1/2 angle seats cut to the column width unless noted otherwise. A maximum clearance of one-half inch is maintained between the beam end and the column face. The angles are welded to the HSS column with five-sixteenth inch fillet welds on both sides typically. The HSS beam is secured to the angle seats with one-quarter inch fillet welds along three sides top and bottom typically.
