Metal decking runs parallel to a structural steel beam, bearing adjacent to an edge plate assembly. The edge plate thickness varies based on the overhang distance E, using a one-eighth-inch plate for distances up to six inches, a three-sixteenths-inch plate for distances between six and nine inches, and a quarter-inch plate for distances between nine and twelve inches. The edge plate features a four-inch vertical leg unless noted otherwise and laps two inches over the beam flange.
