A crack control joint in a slab on grade features a saw cut depth equal to one-fifth of the slab depth with a two-inch maximum. Reinforcing steel continues uninterrupted across the control joint because the slab acts as a structural diaphragm. The contractor must not through-cut or trench the control joint and must submit a slab on grade crack control joint plan for the engineer's review prior to pouring concrete.
