A wide-flange column connects to a wide-flange transfer girder with its strong axis parallel to the beam. The column bears on a three-quarter-inch base plate sized to match the beam flange width, maintaining a one-inch minimum typical clearance all around. Four five-eighths-inch machine bolts secure the connection on standard wide-flange beam gauge with a five-inch gauge spacing. Full-depth shear and stiffener plates are provided on each side with thickness based on the transfer girder size. Fillet welds are specified at one-quarter inch, with welds omitted at the wide-flange curved fillets.
