Standard stiffener plate and connection plate configurations for wide-flange steel shapes and stair stringers below a concrete slab. The connection utilizes ASTM A572 Grade 50 plates welded to the wide-flange member web and flanges with fillet welds ranging from three-sixteenths to one-quarter inch. Plate sizes and single or two-sided configurations vary by structural member size, specifying one-quarter inch plates for W12 and smaller, three-eighths inch plates for W18 through W14 and stair stringers, and one-half inch plates for W36 through W21. Two-sided stiffeners are required at all locations without a concrete slab above and as noted in the schedule.
