An HSS strongback bears on a base plate measuring one-half inch by eleven inches by six inches, secured to an existing five-inch concrete slab-on-grade using two three-eighths-inch diameter Simpson Titen HD screw anchors with a two-point-four-inch effective embedment per ICC ESR-2713. The base plate connects to the HSS member with quarter-inch fillet welds and complete joint penetration welds as indicated. The strongback extends upward from the slab with a maximum two-foot spacing to the intermediate attachment per the elevation.
