A concrete blockout around the buckling restrained brace casing ensures the gusset plate maintains direct contact with the concrete. Three-inch thick low-density expanded polystyrene bead board is required on all sides of the casing where buried below grade. A one-inch clearance is maintained at the sides of the casing, with a three-inch clearance at the end. Concrete placement is prohibited until the brace is installed and inspected. The gusset plate must remain free of blockout material to ensure direct contact with the surrounding concrete.
