A Grade 50 steel plate measuring 3/4 inch by 5 inches by 3 feet 0 inches is centered on the column line across the top flanges of the framing members. The plate is welded with five-sixteenths inch fillet welds on twelve-inch intervals, left unwelded across the column face. Beams frame into the column using shear connections specified per plan, welded with one-quarter inch fillets on three sides typically. A three-inch wide plate is substituted when the supporting beam flange width is less than six inches. Top of steel elevations and beam sizes are determined per plan.
