A steel beam connects to a supporting steel column using a shear plate welded to the column flange with three-sided fillet welds. Two rows of bolts secure the beam web to the shear plate, with the specific number of bolts and plate size determined by the schedule shown in detail 1A. A three-eighths-inch thick stiffener plate is welded inside the column web with one-quarter-inch fillet welds typical on both sides. A three-quarter-inch thick bearing plate is fastened to the bottom flange with three-quarter-inch diameter machine bolts.
