A square or round opening up to nine inches is reinforced in a metal deck using a twelve gauge strengthening plate. The plate is secured with half-inch long fillet welds at each ridge and half-inch long welds spaced at four inches maximum. The opening maintains six inches minimum clearance to adjacent deck conditions.
