A structural steel beam connects to a buckling-restrained braced frame column using side plates and a bottom plate. The beam depth 'D' is flanked by side plates secured with pre-drilled bolts typically spaced at one and one-half inches staggered on each side plate. A back plate is included, though omitted at similar conditions at the column flange, and a bottom plate provides bearing support. A one-eighth-inch gap is provided between the sides of the beam and the steel plates, and the beam is chamfered or rabbeted at the welds to the bottom plate a maximum of the weld size plus one-eighth of an inch.
