A construction joint in a reinforced concrete beam or girder placed in two separate pours is located within the middle third of the beam span. All primary reinforcing steel continues uninterrupted across the joint. Additional diagonal reinforcing bars are required in quantities determined by the member width, ranging from one number six bar each way for members up to seven inches wide to six number six bars each way for members wider than forty inches. Additional ties are required at three-inch and one-foot typical spacings adjacent to the keyway interface.
