Two options for concrete slab-on-grade joints comprise a construction joint featuring a steel key profile with a maximum one-and-a-half-inch depth, supported by typical reinforcing and spaced dimensions across the thickened slab edge. A sawcut control joint is cut to a depth of T divided by four with a one-and-one-quarter-inch minimum, reinforced with one-half-inch diameter by one-foot-six-inch smooth bars spaced at eighteen inches on center. A bond breaker is applied to one side of the smooth bars, and the sawcut must occur within three hours of finishing concrete using an early entry dry-cut saw before being filled with sealant.
